Hepatitis C among guys who have sex with guys

Knowing how to have conversations about hepatitis C with gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (gbMSM) is an important part of comprehensive sexual health and harm reduction support. That’s why CATIE created this video about how to integrate hepatitis C into existing sexual health and harm reduction services.

Among gbMSM in Canada, hepatitis C is most commonly transmitted through drug use or sexual contact and this video discusses complex factors that have contributed to increased rates of hepatitis C within communities of guys who have sex with guys. For example, stigmatizing attitudes towards drug use and sex can create barriers that limit access to health, sexual health and harm reduction services.

In this video, experienced service providers offer strengths-based and community-driven approaches for normalizing conversations around sex and drug use and meeting the unique needs of gbMSM, particularly those who use drugs to enhance sexual experiences.
