Sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections: Guides for health professionals

The Public Health Agency of Canada is replacing the Canadian Guideline on Sexually Transmitted infections (CGSTI) with a series of user-friendly guides that provide essential information and public health recommendations on screening, diagnostic testing, treatment and follow-up of several sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBI). Each Guide will incorporate the National Advisory Committee on Sexually Transmitted and Blood-borne Infections (NAC-STBBI) public health recommendations.

A “Key information and resources” section has been introduced to provide easy and quick access to the main recommendations of national public health concern in order to ensure primary care and public health professionals can access the information they need quickly and efficiently.

The development of the Sexually Transmitted and Blood-borne Infections: Guides for Health Professionals was informed in part by the two surveys which took place in 2019, one with the health professionals who used the CGSTI and the other with provincial-territorial health authorities. In addition, the NAC-STBBI provided valuable input for the consolidation of the CGSTI content included in the guides. It also helped prioritize the selection of STBBIs for the guides.
