Integrating hepatitis C in community healthcare
Presented in partnership with Indigenous Services Canada and CATIE
Historical and present-day colonialism have resulted in disproportionate impacts on the health and well-being of Indigenous communities in Canada, including disproportionate rates of hepatitis C compared to the general population. At the same time, Indigenous communities and allies are leading innovative strategies to improve hepatitis C outcomes.
This webinar will explore opportunities for Indigenous Services Canada community health providers to integrate hepatitis C prevention, testing and care into their practice as part of broader holistic approaches to health and wellness. It will provide an overview of hepatitis C among Indigenous Peoples in Canada and share insights into how nurses and other community health providers have incorporated hepatitis C into primary care. Speakers will discuss the effectiveness of culturally responsive programs, the key role of community healthcare workers in delivering low-barrier hepatitis C services, as well as broader efforts to eliminate hepatitis C in Canada.
