Understanding viral hepatitis in immigrant and newcomer communities

This webinar offers an overview of viral hepatitis in Canada and raises awareness of prevalence among immigrants and newcomers from regions where hepatitis B and C are more common. Speakers examine the unique barriers these communities face accessing prevention, testing, vaccination and treatment, as well as explore evidence-informed strategies for outreach, education and care.

Many immigrants arrive in Canada without knowing their hepatitis status and often encounter multiple challenges accessing healthcare. Despite the availability of effective hepatitis B vaccines and curative hepatitis C treatments, persistent gaps in care continue to slow progress toward elimination. Addressing these inequities requires informed and engaged service providers, strong cross-sector collaboration and culturally responsive health education.
