Opioid toxicity deaths across employment sectors in Ontario

Presented in partnership with the Ontario Drug Policy Research Network.

This webinar provides an overview of key findings from a report on opioid toxicity deaths across employment sectors in Ontario. Presenters discuss patterns and circumstances surrounding these deaths and the implications for workplace health, harm reduction and public policy. The session also highlights lived experience perspectives on how these findings can improve access to healthcare, support services and evidence-based interventions, as well as inform efforts to reduce substance-related harms.

Workers in certain sectors, such as construction or mining, face an elevated risk of substance-related harms and mortality due to occupation-related factors such as higher rates of workplace injury and more precarious employment. Understanding the circumstances surrounding these deaths is critical for identifying sectors that experience disproportionate harm and informing targeted workplace, public health and policy responses.
