U=U Community Perspectives

Event Date:
27 March 2018, 13:00 EDT

In addition to improving the health of people living with HIV, research confirms that HIV treatment also has massive prevention benefits. Evidence shows that people living with HIV who are on treatment and maintain an undetectable viral load do not transmit HIV to their sexual partners (known as undetectable = untransmittable, or U=U).

This webinar will:

  • Review the scientific evidence supporting U=U
  • Outline how to use U=U as a prevention strategy
  • Showcase community perspectives on U=U benefits and considerations
  • Draw attention to the legal implications of U=U by examining the legal context of HIV criminalization

Speakers:

  • Camille Arkell, CATIE
  • Tsion Demeke Abate, Canadian HIV/AIDS Black, African and Caribbean Network
  • Joshua Edwards, Health Initiative for Men
  • Richard Elliott, Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network
  • William Flett, YouthCO
