Regional Gay Men's Health Summits and CATIE Rapporteur Projects

Contents

Annual regional Gay Men’s Health Summits are rare opportunities for focused discussions on gay, bisexual, two-spirit and other MSM men’s health, HIV prevention and sexual health promotion in Canada.

These summits typically bring together a regional collection of community programmers, outreach workers, policy makers and researchers involved in gay men’s health and HIV initiatives to network, share research and programming strategies, and plan future initiatives.

CATIE’s Gay Men’s Summit Rapporteur Projects

CATIE’s Gay Men’s Rapporteur Projects intend to broaden the reach of the summit by bringing stakeholders from across Canada to these regional summits to facilitate knowledge-sharing and cross-fertilization between regions.

These projects enhance rapporteurs’ overall experience of the regional summits through:

  • A structured process of note-taking and synthesizing for each presentation given at the summits
  • Daily debrief dinners to reflect on the proceedings of the summits
  • Collective creation of a PowerPoint presentation that transforms rapporteurs’ notes into a succinct slideshow that showcases the main themes and findings from the summits.

Through this process, the high-level information presented at the summits is turned into a simple presentation that can be given to rapporteurs’ organizations, regional networks and professional communities.

BC Gay Men’s Health Summit

The BC Gay Men’s Health Summit is a project of the Community Based Research Centre (CBRC), organized annually in collaboration with the Health Initiative for Men and the BC Centre for Disease Control. The first BC Gay Men’s Health Summit was held in 2005. This annual summit brings together those working or volunteering in gay men’s health and HIV prevention in British Columbia and Canada to exchange information and plan future initiatives.1

Watch recordings of the presentations given at the BC Gay Men’s Health Summit from 2008 onward.

The CBRC has also begun producing annual reports summarizing key research and findings presented at the BC Gay Men’s Health Summits. These are available for order or download through CATIE’s Ordering Centre:
