At-Large Board Member
Late 1999, I answered an ad for ‘Street Outreach Worker’ with AIDS Vancouver Island (AVI). Happily, despite my lack of formal education, they gave me an opportunity to prove myself. My life experience and determination got me through, and 13 years later I continue to do the work I love, with an agency I respect.
Currently, my work is focussed on hepatitis C and HIV/HCV co-infection and includes support, peer education and outreach. I have had the pleasure of working within creative art-based programming such as The Viral Monologues, Body Mapping and a weekly art group for women at-risk. Along the way, I co-developed AVI’s first peer-education program delivered within the provincial justice system. Recently, I successfully completed HCV treatment, bringing an experiential point of view to my work.
I would be honoured to have the opportunity to bring my experience and perspective to serve on CATIE’s board.
